REDWINGS MANAGER IS FINALIST IN SMEE & FORD LEGACY GIVING AWARDS

Redwings is delighted that the charity’s Legacy Manager, Katie Fulcher, has been announced as a finalist in the Smee & Ford Legacy Giving Awards 2024, recognising and celebrating outstanding achievement and skill in the sector.

Katie – who celebrated 10 years at Redwings last year – was nominated for the Legacy Administrator of the Year Award by her colleagues at the biggest horse welfare charity in the UK, and the shortlist has been revealed today (Monday 5th February).

She is responsible for managing all gifts in Wills to Redwings, which makes up over two-thirds of its income and plays a crucial part in caring for the hundreds of horses, ponies, donkeys and mules the charity is responsible for, and allows them to keep helping those in need.

Redwings CEO Lynn Cutress said: “Katie is a trained solicitor with previous experience in the charity sector, and she brings her vast knowledge and skills to her role every day.

“She takes her role incredibly seriously, understanding not just its importance for the charity, but also the poignant role she plays in helping people fulfil their final wishes – something which is always appreciated by the families of those who have sadly passed.

“As Legacy Manager, her role goes beyond administration. From initial enquiries from supporters, to handling notifications and legacy completions, as well as managing contested Wills (sometimes on behalf of other charities), Katie looks after the process from start to finish.

“She never shies away from putting in the extra hours to ensure she always meets best practice and, ultimately, to ensure that the final wishes of those who kindly leave gifts in Wills are fulfilled. I couldn’t think of a better recipient of this prestigious award.”

The award entries were reviewed and assessed by a judging panel that includes some of the biggest names from across the charitable legacy community. Katie has been selected, amidst tough competition from a pool of brilliant applications, based on matching the criteria for Ambition, Excellence, Outcome and attributing scores against a transparent system aimed at recognising and rewarding inspirational legacy teams and individuals.

Katie said: “It’s an honour to be shortlisted for a Smee & Ford Legacy Giving Award. It is a wonderful, independent validation not only of my work but the work being done here at Redwings. Winning would be an incredible way to mark my 10 years with the charity, in what is also our 40th anniversary year.”

The winners will be selected following a rigorous judging stage ahead of a private ceremony at Hilton Bankside, London, on 18th April 2024.

Polly Avgherinos, Managing Director, Smee & Ford: “We extend our congratulations to Katie for being shortlisted in the Legacy Administrator of the Year category. We eagerly anticipate her presence at the April ceremony, where we will come together to acknowledge and celebrate the remarkable talent, dedication, and enthusiasm of individuals contributing to the field of legacies. Their impactful work on behalf of legators, charities, and beneficiaries deserves recognition and appreciation.”
