RSPCA search for the purrfect retirement home for 19 year old Ginger (92 in human years)

A 19-year-old cat, believed to be one of the oldest currently in RSPCA care, is looking for a new retirement home to see out her twilight years.

Mature moggie Ginger came into the care of the charity’s Manchester and Salford Branch last month after her previous owner sadly became too unwell to look after her.

Her companion, deaf 19-year-old Mollie, has already been adopted after it was decided to rehome them separately because of Ginger’s more dominant personality.

The equivalent of 92-years-old in human years, Ginger has had a full veterinary check up and despite her advancing years is said to be reasonably agile and in good health.

Describing the golden oldie, who is currently in the care of a fosterer, Manchester and Salford Branch manager Susie Hughes said: “Ginger has been around the block enough times to know exactly what she wants. Her daily mission is to get as close to people as often as she can, and she’s a fantastic organiser of human time, telling her foster carer exactly what she needs.

“She’s a super confident cat who loves being the centre of attention and would spend all day on someone’s lap if she could. She’s going to need an adopter who’s as equally as confident though, because she has been known to give a quick swipe of her paw if you try and get up from your chair before she wants you to!

“We’re delighted that Mollie has found her new retirement home but sadly Ginger is still looking. We’d urge people to look beyond her age as it really is just a number and rehoming an older pet can be incredibly rewarding.

“You’re giving them the best possible life in their twilight years and we always do our utmost to ensure a happy ending for every animal that comes into our care, young or old.”

Ginger is looking for a quiet, adult-only home without other pets.

If you would like to know more about her or express an interest in adoption, please email adoptions@rspca-manchesterandsalford.org.uk or visit the branch’s website where you will also be able to see all the other animals looking for new homes at the centre.
